A Problem on Multiplying to the Fourth Grade Elementary Student
Some Javanese people, especially the girls or women actually know about a game ‘pasaran’. It is so popular game when I was a child. The girls as I was at that time, we are about six or seven years old, like playing this game very much. It is like an interaction between the buyers and the sellers in the real market. Some girls became the sellers and the other became the buyers.
Commonly, they did an accounting here. In fact, they have done some Mathematic operations in their accounting. So, it helped even just little to us, to know about Mathematic even not all of us have been studying in a school. It gave some advantages because of selling-buying there, we use some leaves to be the money. We always count them when we needed to buy something. And so did, it needed thinking for a while when we have to give some paid back ‘money’.
But it was in the past. Not now or probably tomorrow. When we look around to our environment, we will find it difficult to meet that game played by those little girls today. Some children today prefer playing games in the computer to having that kind of games called ‘pasaran’.
It is not a thing to be amazed when some children in the school get some difficulties in operate some Mathematic operation - even more to those who don’t like Mathematic subject-. Three girls who was in the Fourth Grade of Elementary Students, who was became an object in this small research, had some difficulties on multiplication. They got some difficult to handle some problem related to multiplication. To have it clear soon, they have to count by adding and adding more which will so wasted the time.
Some method that thought in the school, for it was past, just through some memorization. When the children are good at memorization, there is nothing to be worried and even it was helpful. But what if they don’t? Not all of students have some good memorization even they are good on counting something. So, when the objects of this small research get some problems on multiplication, they get it difficult to finish it soon because they don’t memorize it well.
It is lacking of studying mathematic as just a subject in the school so the children often know that it can be so clear with their daily life.
What I mean here is that if we take some examples that the children know, and directly it is related to their daily life, it will be simpler to make them understand about Mathematic, even in the multiplication operation.
It is easier to get known about multiplication when the teacher gave an example like this. For example we want to multiple 3 and 2. So, we use a story to make it easier to be understood. Let Annie took three cakes from the refrigerator twice, so, how many cake does Annie have? They will get it easy to add three and three so they get six. It is what we called as multiplication.
To the bigger numeral we should better use the basis 5 and 10. So, when we multiple 7 and 9, we should think 7 times 10 then we reduce it with 9. We will better to give some prediction method, that 7 times 9 will have a result that less than 70. Another example, when we multiple 6 and 4, we have to know 6 times 5 first, so then we reduce it with 6.
But, it still be a little complicated when the children counting twice – multiplying then reducing -. They got on strong believe to the memorization even they didn’t do it well.

THE POWER OF CATEGORY AND NETWORKING
We live in our life and we do everything with our mind. Nothing cancelled and nothing disappears. In our mind, according to Immanuel Kant (1771), there are : qualitative, quantitative, category, relationship.
Each of them has its power to affect our behavior in our daily life. Our mind divided into two groups when it is thinking. They are top down and bottom up. Top down means that when we are thinking about something, we will think it as the general first, then we will go to the specific purpose. For example, when we thought about theorems, we will think from the theorems first. Then we will see the person who makes the theorems.
It is so different with bottom up thinking. When we thought by this method, we will think something from the specific one to the general one. We think about some complex things first, and then we make it to the simpler one. It is not easy to make something to be the simple one even though what we have been thinking about is in our real world which so complicated.
Everything that doesn’t need to think when we are thinking about something will be saved in ‘Epoch’ home. It is surrounded in our mind but when we are focus to something we looked it down or we want to think about, some other things that related to the objects but there is no use to what we have been thinking will automatically saved in there. And it is the one of the advantage we have an Epoch home because we don’t need to find it difficult to focus on what ware going to think about.
According to Katagiri, Student’s Mathematical Thinking divided into three things. They are attitude, method, and content. Attitude needs to be combined with some method to create a good content. So, the three things above are related one to another.
Then nature of School Mathematic according to Ebutt and Straker (1995), there are pattern, problem solving, investigation, and communication. The instruments that have to be used when we do a research are observation, question, and questioner (the subject).

How to uncover the psychological phenomena
I think I never have something called traumatic. Because where ever I go, whenever I think, I never got some tragic events that make me so scared. Maybe when I get some terrible incident, it just made me shocked and feel crowded for a few moments. Not for a long time as long as people call some terrible things as traumatic.
If there is a question, whether three is something that makes me feel scared, then I can answer it confidently. I feel afraid of something that caught me in a bad situation. Maybe, it will be more beautiful to call as a bad experience.
Someday I went to campus early and the road was still quite. It was out of my mind when I got a little big animal cross the road. And I got shocked because my motorcycle went a bit fast. I am not on the clear morning, so I got panic and it was so lucky for that animal (it was a dog) because my motorcycle just hit some part of its body. Poor man!! It made me feel so frightened. First, I want to stop my motorcycle to make sure that the dog is okay. But, when I look behind, the dog was gone so on. I don’t know where. Maybe, he run out to tell what was happened to his owner.
Thank God because the frightened dog is okay, and he had no injury in his body. But, what I am confused later is about my clothes. Especially, it was about my skirt. I thought surely that it was touched the dog’s body. So, I have to change to another one. Then, I decided to borrow one of my friend’s skirt. I was still in a heart beating to imagine when I hit the dog.
Before that moment, I have felt scared to the dog. The cause was that when I was a child, I have been almost bitten by a dog. Then, after I hit a dog in that road, I want to scream out whenever I see a dog.
What do you think about a feeling like this? I don’t ever think that it was a traumatic because I’m not being crazy or over frightened when I see a dog.
